2008 Winter League Tournament Results - March 1st, 2008
The 2008 Diamond Kings Hitting League Tournament featured a couple high scoring championship games Sunday afternoon as the Whitebirds (5-2) edged out the Bluebirds (7-0) 138-136 to win the 12 and Under Division while the Indians (4-3)knocked off PGA (7-0) 192-167 to take the Adult League Division.
The Whitebirds needed 2 points to win the game with one hitter remaining. Chris Delgadillo stepped in and drilled a three pointer on his third swing to win the 12U Chamionship for the Whitebirds. In the Adult League Championship game, the Indians exploded for a record 192 points to cruise to a 22 point win. PGA had been undefeated and consistently scored in the mid to high 100's all season. The Indians knew they needed to score big to win, and they did just that. Anthony Olund led the Indians with a 67 point effort.
Side Notes:
Mark O'Kelly was awarded the 12U MVP Award for his efforts during the regular season. Thomas Polus, a varsity outfielder from Andrean, was awarded the Adult MVP award. Both were awarded for having the highest points/swing average.
The Dyer Lightning and Dyer Thunder, two 9U travel teams, competed in the 12U division this year and held their own scoring 223pts. and 154pts. respectively. We saw them hit for higher points each week and improve tremendously over the course of the regular season. Diamond Kings would like to commend them for their hard work and effort against the older competition. Good luck this season!
